Is Mathematics discovered or invented?
Discovered is defined as: to notice or learn, especially by making an effort. For example: I discovered that i left my pencil under the bed because i went and looked for it.
Invented is defined as: to produce (something previously unknown) by the use of imagination. For example: The telephone was invented in ..... It was something that came from the imagination or the ingenious.
Well. I think this is like the paradox of who came first the chicken or the egg??
"The whole concept of mathematics was developed"- Mr. Johan.
I feel that someone had to invent/ make up universal symbols for numbers so that society could have a general way of communicating. I think that maybe it all started with people counting with their fingers and making signs to communicate how many cows, or chickens they had... but once they had already used up all of their fingers they had to establish another way of counting, like sticks, or rocks... So this is why they invented symbols like 2- for two, which represents 2 objects or 2 animals/ sometihng... i dont know if u get what i mean.... like the twoness of things... what mr.david said.
I think that mathematics is still being discovered. For example, whenever we look at something new in math class, im discovering and learning new material, answers and techniques because of the effort I put into it. I cannot invent anything when im doing problems or equations because if not my answer will be wrong, but i can assume things to get my answer .
When you discover something, it already existed buy when u invent something it is new and came from ur imagination. So i think the symbols we gave to math were invented just to establish a standard language for math.
Im a little confused, because the more i think about it the more i feel that mathematics was both invented and discovered.

History Paragraph.
- Option C
- 'The study of history is so important that it should be a compulsory IB subject.' To what extent do you think this is true?
- Attempt to Answer:
- I never liked history very much. I didnt like history in spanish nor history in 10th grade. It was not about the teachers, i just dont like memorizing old information that for some reason it will help me in my future... are you kidding? Its nice to know about historical facts, but the cool ones like about Hitler or... hitler... or about the world wars and things like that. But instead of reading them from books that look sooooo boring why not watch the movies and if there is something very important that the movie doesnt show than the teacher can make a quick pause and let us know.
- If history was mandatory for IB, i would have probably cried but at the end of the day i would have just go with it cause i cant do anything to change it. I dont necessarily think that it is important. Even though it is common knowledge or as we say it in spanish : cultura general. it is still information that it is very subjective and unreliable unlike math were we know that 2+2 is 4, in history the information is changed and picked and altered hence how do we even know that what we are learning is even true???
- i desagree with that statement. the only reason i would agree is if history classes were taught by watching movies instead of reading books.
